jo's music corner

welcome back! you know a lot about me so far (seeing that you actually went through the about me and didn't just click this link) once again, you get another fun fact. rather, a bread crumb to who i am. here it is, funfact number 3 (i think), i have had a vogue subscription for about 3 years. reading through a magazine is one of my favorite things to do and i love fashion, jewelry, and smelling the little perfume strips. there you go. thats your fun fact. now, this page will be about music (obviously) i have already told you some of my favorite songs on my about me page, so this page will be more specific. i wont just list off songs, ill tell you why i like them. however, there will be some lists (sorry) without a whole lot of context. sometimes, i'll leave why i like a song up to you. listen to it, and just guess why i like it. alright, get on with the site and enjoy some great recs (dont just read this- listen to them as you read!!) ps, if this page looks familiar, again im not some master coder, i use a layout generator, so thank you to petrapixel for doing that. now, read the very long sidebar if you have the attention span. then move on to the main stuff.

songs of the month (january '26)

  • outside woman blues. i believe this is on the about me page, but i do repeat myself. this song is great. if you need to dance, throw this song on.
  • summer nights. i love grease (again, i repeat often) this song also makes me dance, and is best paired with look at me im sandra dee (when shes getting made fun of, not self pitying)
  • my funny valentine (can you tell i just watched the talented mr ripley?) this is possibly the most unloving, but somehow loving love songs ever. its quite confusing. only frank sinatra could say my face is laughable and unphotographable, and my figure is less than greek and still make me feel complimented. anywho, maybe i only like this song because i've seen matt damon sing it to jude law. its still excellent.
  • heroin. the velvet underground one. i have never, and (hopefully) never will use heroin, or any drug for that matter. however, this song blasting in my ears with all my lights off makes it feel like i am. this song will literally get you sonically "high". enjoy it.
  • those are the 4 you get this month. do me a favor, listen to them while you read the rest of this page. or don't i won't know. now, the rest of this page will be reviews and such, but if you started with this you did it right. if not don't sweat it- again, i won't know.

alright, theres the music. im not done yet though. i have a few more recommendations for you. before i begin, if you may open your spotify/apple music/soundlcoud/amazon music or whatever you chose, search the song "monkberry moon delight" and then "uncle albert/admiral halsey" these are some very delightful songs you should listen to as i rant.

jos general recommendations

so, you want some recommendations from me. fun! if you're following my instructions, you should be hearing monkberry moon delight or, if you're a slow reader, uncle albert/admiral halsey. after that, i want you to explore by album. we'll start with the beatles. listen to abbey road. it is their final recording and is very beginner friendly. enjoy the beautiful studio techniques and vocals. then, get into rubber soul and the white album. sick of the beatles? if so, this isn't for you. im kidding, even i take a break. move to francoise hardy. "i dont speak french" it doesnt matter. listen to tous les garcons et les filles. its great, just know its one of those cheery songs about lonliness. great song. while your listening to her greatest hits, go ahead and listen to le temps de l'amour. moving on, buddy holly. listen to him. you're so square, brown eyed handsome man, and slippin and slidin are some of my favorites. velvet underground is up next. its one of their top songs but hit oh sweet nuthin. do the vu & nico album. some individual songs- heroin, sweet jane, lonesome cowboy bill, and venus in furs is where i'd start. you might notice these aren't deep cuts, start with the basic stuff then work your way down.
